It fills us with great pleasure to be joining your dental practice here in Bearsted. By way of introduction we are a family team headed up by dentist Kartik Patel, wife and practice manager Radha Patel and our one year old mascot, baby Shaanti.
We would firstly like to thank Alastair and Pari for welcoming us and for all of their years of hard work which I am sure you are all grateful for. We recognise there will be an important transition period so rest assured we will strive to keep the practice running unchanged in that time to the high standard you have experienced and come to expect. You will still see the same friendly faces behind reception in the surgery, helping us provide quality care in a welcoming and relaxed environment.
Born and raised in South London, Kartik attended Whitgift School in South Croydon where he soon realised a natural skill in drawing and a fascination with medical science which spurred his pursuit of a dental career. Having graduated from Queen Mary University London in 2008 with Distinction, Kartik started his career in Essex treating nervous adults and children with special needs. Since then he has gone on to gain postgraduate qualifications with the Royal College of Surgeons and in cosmetic dentistry. In 2009 he returned full circle to South Croydon, settling to work in general practice thereafter. As well as focusing on providing a full range of traditional family dental treatments for his patients, Kartik is also able to provide additional specialised treatments for those patients requiring them, with the ability to enhance smiles through orthodontic straightening of teeth, teeth whitening and a wide range of cosmetic treatment.
Radha will be acting as the practice manager, overseeing the smooth running of the practice and making sure your visit is a pleasant one. Being a fully qualified pharmacist since 2013 she is perfectly positioned to assist with healthcare advice. Originally from Hampshire, Radha has a talent for baking and likes to unwind with yoga exercises. Away from the dental chair, Kartik loves to stretch his legs running outdoors and is looking forward to what Kent has to offer. When not at the practice Radha and Kartik can be found experiencing the joys of parenthood and running around after little Shaanti eagerly awaiting her first tooth!
From 24th July, Kartik will be accessible at the surgery 5 days a week, you will be warmly welcomed to ask any questions if you, your family and friends would like to call in and meet us or even drop by for a personal chat. We look forward to meeting you and serving your dental needs now and in the future.
Kiana has now left her temporary role with us as a receptionist (thank you all for being so nice to her!) and headed off on her travels for a few months before starting University in the Autumn. So we are delighted to welcome back to the practice Julie Safavi who many of you may well remember from when she previously worked here for several years. Julie will be a permanent replacement for Sam who left at the end of last year and will be helping on Reception as well as in the surgery. Hopefully that completes all the staff changes here for the time being!
With the recent departure of one of our nurses, Sam (see below), for the first time in over 15 years we have a staff vacancy at the practice. Whilst we are in the process of making arrangements to find a permanet replacement for the position, our youngest daughter, Kiana, has temporarily joined the practice as a Receptionist to help pay for the travels she has planned for the later part of her gap year prior to heading up to Sheffield University to study History in September 2017. Please be gentle with her whilst she islearning the ropes here!
After being with us for over 15 years, we are sorry to announce that Sam Griffiths, one of our most experienced dental nurses, has decided to leave the practice and move on to other challenges elsewhere. Sam has been a huge part of the practice for very many years and, though we are very sad to see her go, we are very grateful for all her hard work here and wish her well for the whatever the future holds.
We are very pleased to advise patients that a recent routine inspection of the practice by the Care Quality Commission found that we were meeting or exceeding all of their requirements for providers of general dental services. The Care Quality Commission is the Government appointed body
that regulates all healthcare services, including dentists.
A full copy of their report is available on their website at:

We are delighted to let everyone know that Helen Robinson, another of our long suffering dental nurse/receptionists, has given birth to a third son, Robbie. Mother and baby are both doing very well and we wish them, his two brothers, Charlie and Sonny, and of course Dad Brian many congratulations. Picture to follow as soon as possible!
What is happening? Having not had any staff changes at the practice for many years we now have a second one to announce as Val Williams, our receptionist and dental nurse, is also now retiring. Alastair and Pari both worked with Val at another practice in Maidstone before establishing our own here in Bearsted and were delighted when she agreed to join us soon after we opened. She was very much at the heart and soul of the practice so we are very sad to see her leave, but hope that she can perhaps be persuaded to occasionally return to cover reception - if only to keep us all up to date with Bearsted gossip! We know she has unlimited plans for a very eventful and busy retirement and wish her and husband Stan all the very best for a long and happy one.
After being with us at the practice since it was established in 1994, our receptionist, Pauline Hann, has decided to retire. She has been a huge asset to the practice and, though we are very sad to see her leave, we wish her a very long, happy and eventful retirement. Thank you Pauline!
